International Measures |
Information The hectare is the common unit of measurement for larger lots. For smaller parcels of land as well as when referring to dwellings, the square meter is the customary unit of measurement. This is similar to the use of acres and square feet in the United States. Although Costa Rica is basically a metric country, in some areas, the traditional units of area measurement are still used. Please note that the size of the "manzana" and the "vara" vary slightly across North, Central and South America. The measures provided here refer specifically to the Costa Rican usage. |
